Saturday Evening Club is established.
1899
Founded by librarian Edith Guerrier at the North Bennet Street Industrial School, it is a social club for girls whose purpose is to introduce immigrants to American culture. Members are young working women and high school students who can only attend meetings on Saturdays. Edith Brown joins as an instructor a few years later. The program is expanded to a separate building at 18 Hull Street and prompts creation of a pottery club in 1908.* The original club continues to meet until 1969.
